Who should attend?

This qualification is designed to empower the public to take action and save lives in the event of mass casualties. This course is ideal for any member of the public who would like to learn lifesaving skills to help deal with a mass casualty situation.

Qualification

The citizenAID course has been specifically developed to help members of the public learn life-saving skills for use in extreme situations. Based on the citizenAID phone App and pocket guide, this regulated qualification is designed to teach people how to react safely, prioritise the injured and give first aid to victims in the event of a deliberate multiple casualty incident. This is an Ofqual regulated course and certificates are valid for 3 years.

What we cover on this First Aid course

Determining the appropriate actions to take in the following events, using the citizenAID App or pocket guide:

first aid tick  Knife attacker or active shooter
first aid tick  Suspected bomb
first aid tick  Exploded bomb
first aid tick  Reporting the incident to the emergency services
first aid tick  Prioritising multiple casualties
first aid tick  Providing sufficient information when the emergency services arrive

Dealing with an unresponsive casualty who is breathing:

first aid tick  Opening the airways
first aid tick  Checking breathing
first aid tick  Recovery position

Controlling severe external bleeding:

first aid tick  Applying manufactured and improvised tourniquets
first aid tick  Using improvised and manufactured dressings to pack wounds

Pre-requisites

No previous First Aid knowledge is required to attend this course. Due to the course content learners should be able to deal with stressful situations. If this course is delivered in-house the organisation are responsible for assessing the suitability of learners to carry out this role.

Assessment

Assessment will be practical via observations carried out by the course trainer.
