Level 3 Award Paediatric First Aid (RQF)

Designed for anyone wanting to become qualified in administering first aid to children and infants.

Who should attend?

The Paediatric First Aid course has been specifically designed to meet the criteria set by the Department for Education’s EYFS Framework and is ideal for:

• Those who have gained a level 2 and/or level 3 childcare qualification and have entered into an early years setting and wish to be included in the staff to child ratios to comply with EYFS requirements.

Newly qualified entrants to an early years setting who have completed a level 2 and/or level 3 qualification on or after 30th June 2016, must also have either a full paediatric first aid or an emergency paediatric first aid certificate within three months of starting work.

• Registered childminders and assistants who are required to hold a current and full paediatric first aid certificate in order to comply with the EYFS requirements.

• Anyone who has a non-professional involvement with infants and children, such as parents, grandparents and babysitters who want to learn key paediatric first aid skills.

Qualification

Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid. This is an Ofqual registered, regulated qualification. Certificates are valid for 3 years.

What we cover on this First Aid course

This course consists of 2 units: Unit 1 Emergency Paediatric First Aid and Unit 2 Managing Paediatric illness, injuries and Emergencies

Unit 1 covers:

first aid tick  Recovery position
first aid tick  CPR and AED
first aid tick  Choking.
first aid tick  External bleeding
first aid tick  Shock
first aid tick  Anaphylaxis and allergic reactions

Unit 2 covers:

first aid tick  Injuries to bones, joints and muscles
first aid tick  Head and spinal injuries
first aid tick  Conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose.
first aid tick  Chronic medical condition or sudden illness
first aid tick  Effects of extreme heat or cold
first aid tick  Electric shock
first aid tick  Burns and scalds
first aid tick  Poisoning
first aid tick  Bites and stings
first aid tick  Minor injuries
first aid tick  Completion of records relating to illness, injuries and emergencies.

Pre-requisites

No previous First Aid knowledge is required to attend this course. Learners should be able to complete the physical activity of administering CPR. Due to the course content learners should be able to deal with stressful situations. If this course is delivered in-house the organisation are responsible for assessing the suitability of learners to carry out this role in the workplace.
